They are made with carved Tagua--a material that looks very much like ivory but certainly is not! Tagua is an extremely hard nut material that lends itself well to intricate hand carving and can be used as an ivory substitute. It is sometimes called plant ivory, renewable ivory, or alternative ivory because of its rich subtle shading and soft glow. It even ages somewhat like ivory. All of our lovely Tide Pool jewelry pieces are set in sterling silver, and the pendants come on a soft black silk cord. The Turquoise and Dichroic glass pendants come with a beautiful sterling silver rope chain. Note: we do our best to show photos that accurately represent the actual pieces; however, the Tagua Nut does vary in coloration from almost pure white to a golden ivory.
