| | Raku Pottery
Raku is a firing technique developed in 16th century Japan. The clay pieces are rapidly fired to 1700 degrees Fahrenheit, then pulled from the kiln and placed in a covered container along with some type of combustible material. This process gives the glaze a metallic iridescence and crackle pattern, producing a piece of raku pottery with its own unique characteristics.
Award winning artist Randy Snyder adds his own method of hand crafted copper accenting to the traditional white crackle glaze, leading to unique and unpredictable markings in the firing process. The result is a truly distinct piece of raku pottery, a combination of ancient tradition and modern creativity. No two pieces of this beautiful raku pottery are alike.
