Early Native Americans had neither needle and thread say nothing of Singer sewing machines, so they made use of what materials nature provided them for tool making. This sewing and lacing awl is made from a deer leg bone, hand shaped and sharpened to be easily useable for sewing clothing, decorative pouches, beadwork, and mending just about anything. The braintan deerhide strap is accented by French copper beads from the early 1900’s
