Blackfeet Buffalo Calling Rock Fossil PouchBlackfeet Buffalo Calling Rock Fossil PouchA small stone, which is usually a fossil shell of some kind, is known by the Blackfeet as I-nis'-kim, the buffalo stone. This object, as indicated in some stories, gives its possessor great power with buffalo. The stone is found on the prairie, and the person who succeeds in obtaining one is regarded as very fortunate.

Our Calling Rock Fossil and Pouch was created by Montana artist John Yashinski. This Buffalo Calling Rock is an actual Ammonite (snail) fossil that's 60+ million years old. We don't claim this fossil was actually used by Native Americans as calling rock, but this piece is an accurate representation of a Blackfeet Calling Rock Pouch.

The bag is about 2" wide and 8" in length from the top of the fossil to the bottom of the fringe. It's made of braintan deer hide with aged patina, accented with wool and summertime ermine hide streamers. The fringe is adorned with 19th and 20th century beads.
