***SOLD*** Native American Carved Turtle Rattle by John Hawks
This amazing Native American Turtle Rattle features a beautifully hand carved handle by John Hawks. The rattle is nicely accented with feathers and beads, and the leather on this piece has been purposely aged to give the rattle a more traditional look.
The turtle is a Native American symbol for long life, and Turtle rattles are sometimes used in Cherokee health and rain ceremonies. The Red Eared Turtle shell is filled with stream pebbles that produced a nice rattle when shaken. Note: the Red Eared Turtle is a non-endangered species commercially grown in Oklahoma. Turkey and other feathers are used here in lieu of traditional hawk feathers. Rattle overall length: 16"
