Indian Patchwork Sari Wall Hangings and Covers
These unique patchwork sari wall hangings and covers are handcrafted in North Central India. Carefully chosen sections of ornate Indian “festival” saris and other garments are pieced together to form a beautiful collage’ of rich fabric, intricate beadwork, and stunning color. Each Indian sari patchwork piece is a work of art in its own right. These beautiful creations are often used as wall hangings, but they serve equally well as ornamental bedspreads or decorative covers for a couch or table.
Our Indian sari patchwork mosaics are made from sections of “dress up” apparel, saris and other festive garments that has been worn for special events, weddings, religious ceremonies and festivals. Many of these pieces come from family heirlooms, passed down from generation to generation until they are eventually replaced by newer garments. Still beautiful, portions of these articles are then “recycled” or perhaps we could say “reincarnated” as they find their way into these beautiful mosaic creations, where their beauty can be enjoyed and appreciated again and again.
Our Indian sari patchwork pieces are good sized, measuring about 38” x 58”. There is no ‘up’ or ‘down’ or ‘vertical’ or ‘horizontal’ with the patchwork design. They can be used ‘as is” for a bedspread or table cover.
For use as a wall hanging, we recommend having a casing sewn onto the backing top to accommodate a ¾” wooden rod. Decorative caps are available for the wooden rods at most good hardware stores. Loops are another option, but we strongly recommend the casing.
