| | Hand-Beaded Jewelry from Guatemala
This collection of beautiful intricate jewelry from Guatemala features a variety of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, each of which is hand-beaded using high quality glass beads, natural stones, and Czech crystals.
Guatemalan women have long been known for their exquisite textile weaving, yet it wasn't until just 30 years ago that an American woman brought a bead loom to the small village of Santiago de Atitlan and introduced the art of weaving hand-beaded jewelry. The local women soon learned to apply their weaving skills and extraordinary sense of color to this new type of artistry.
Today, beading is an important cottage industry for the women of this area. Gathering in small groups in homes and workshops, the women of this small village have created a sustainable income source as well as a beautiful new art form. Each piece takes one to two days to complete.
A portion of what Sacred Ways pays for these beaded pieces is contributed to Friendship Bridge, a nonprofit, non-government organization that works with underprivileged women in Guatemala, helping them to help themselves and their families.
