The Kentucky coffee tree was once the state tree of Kentucky. The large seeds are not edible when raw, but at one time they were roasted and used to make a bitter drink vaguely like coffee.
The beans measure just a bit less than 3/4" across, and the entire earring is 1 1/2" from the top of the hoop to the bottom of the bean.
