| | Luster Glaze Vases
The stunning finish on these vases is created by a "luster glaze" process, which was originated by the late Beatrice Wood in the early 1900's. Her "reduction-fired lusters" were produced over a 50+ year period and have been displayed in the Oakland Art Museum.
Contemporary artist, Jim Gremel, rediscovered the process and painstakingly recreated it through trial and error. There were no textbooks or formulae to guide him, as the few artists who ever made luster glazes secretly guarded their techniques. We think you will agree that Jim's luster glazes are incomparable in their quality and uniqueness.
Luster glazes contain metals that when fired create a metallic, iridescent color on the surface of the piece. The colors and the amount of luster vary with each piece that is fired, so each Sacred Ways Luster Vase has its own unique presence.
